All in all, I would say, for a Linksys product, this card should function a little better. But I am happy with it and will stick with it. My laptop, with built-in wireless card, for comparison, always gets five bars in the same location. My roommate also uses one, and has the same problem. I use it on a Dell desktop to pick up my Linksys wireless router system in the next room. My Linksys wireless USB adapter works pretty well, except that it is a little weak in picking up a signal. I am surprised that it only gets four out of five bars on the signal strength. That said, the adapter has no problem acquiring the signal and the connection has to be repaired only once in a while.
All in all a great wifi adapter. As far as I can say. I have been using this product for about a year now and it works flawlessly(with the windows vista/xp configuration software). I would rate it with less stars for the product software but i am not rating the software. It connects everyday at 54mbps 100% and my router(linksys wrt54gs) is at least 20 feet away and in a different room.
I will never buy a linksys product again. Then I bought this one. This is my second adapter. "The box is wrong". When I opened the box there was a paper that said I needed to download the Vista drivers from the website, but there were no Vista drivers on the website, only XP. I spent 3-4 hours messing with the stupid thing, until I finally contacted a rep via chat and they told me that the Vista drivers were not available. The first one that I bought was the Wireless N adapter that Linksys (the box) said was backwards compatible. I finally called Linksys and the rep told me that it was not backwards compatible.
Again another lie. I am so furious, this is a complete disrespect of my time as a customer. I am soooooo ticked off. I could never get it to work. The box says it is "VISTA CERTIFIED" Baloney.
Although I hesitate to buy the same exact thing, I do love the simplicity and I like the speed in which they function until they just die one day and you are left scrambling for internet life. Yes, if you don't mind that you will be back out buying another one in less than a year. Now let me also add that I have now gone through FOUR of these on two pc's. If someone could recommend something similar with a longer life span, I'd be happy to give it a try.
These adapters are as easy as plug and play for those of us that are tech challenged. I am here now looking for more. So here I am buying two more.do I recommmend them. The key would be EASY TO USE and SPEED. Before I begin, let me tell you that I wanted EASY to use and that is what I got.
Two for each in a bit over a year. They work great when they are working.
Also, it couldn't possibly be easier to set up. I bought this for my son's computer (he plays games online), worrying that speed would be an issue.boy, was I wrong. I highly recommend this product.
